Antique Carved and Painted Native American Chief with Fantastic Patina notes and wonderfully detailed eyesI am quite sure this carving dates to the 19th century I'd guess 1870s or so and I believe most likely was carved in New England. I love the extreme folkiness of this chief, who I find quite tenderly done, reminding me more of a santos than a "Cigar Store Indian," including for the painted expression on his face. Most of all, though, I love those little feet! Deeply carved and polychromed, with a fantastic warm patina. 11 3 4" t x 3 7 8" w x 2 1 8" d.
