I believe it is an old saddle maker’s vise —it would have been attached to a bench with a lever below

3 11/16" t x 2" w x 1/2" and in marvelously aged and much used condition

including one that makes this feel very timely for the moment:  it is suggested that he was a symbol of hope to the people of Hamelin

Painted Cutout Butterly with Fine Antennae! solitaire most useful relative to thisQuite an exhuberant butterly, and it seems fairly old one judging from the back, hand painted on laid paper, with very finely cut out antennae! Perhaps it lost one tiny one along the way, but who cares, a lovely, painterly thing which also feels quite symbolic! 7 7 16 wing span x 4 1 8 t, very good condition.
