I would guess they date from the 1940s or so

I found it empty

Sight: 10 3/8" x 7 5/16"

and one could float it on a colored mat for some extra color to show through the cutouts

I find it impossible to resist these old acrobat squeeze toys when the acrobats are as good as this guy

SPY, Antique Brass Apple Crate Stencil lunch box I would guess they dateI'm not so much interested in old apple crate stencils for their own sake, but rather ones bearing evocative words, which also happen to be varieties of apples, with SPY being a perfect case in point! All sorts of interesting contexts to hang this one in, perhaps right next to the binoculars! 7 x 3 1 16" and in good antique condition, clearly much used, with darkening to the surface of brass.
