The blue beads for the eyes give this carved Madonna a pretty intense presence-she feels both very holy and rather otherworldly

I think they are just great little objects

with a bit of toning and red stain on reverse

The rather expressionistic black checkerboard pattern painted on top of the red of his shirt I think is really excellent too.
