Rare 19th C. Large Mosaic Work Parquetry Set in Original Slide Top Box reading glasses I have not cleaned it

I have not cleaned it up a bit

which to my sensibility is the perfect combination of humble and super folky

There is something so satisfying to me about old handmade wooden boxes that close alone an angled edge like this

but there are still a good 50 pages or so left

Large Mosaic Work Parquetry Set in Original Slide Top Box reading glasses I have not cleaned itThis wonderful antique "Mosaic Work" parquetry set, produced in Germany I believe in the 1850 60s or so, seems likely to be missing just a few pieces or it may be that I just don't know how to fit them together properly! Whatever the case, it's a beauty of a set, and a very rare one to find, with its original pair of design cards inside, suggesting various forms to be made. I just dumped them all out on the table and started playing, and could go on
